The box that I was previously hosted on was cracked a few weeks ago. Root wasn’t gained because it was just Skids that gained entry. The normal crap was found littered in the usual places.
The actual exploit was a no brainer and I have had several attempts on the site since it happened. As usual I got the normal response from the ISP that the attack originated from ie “We just have too many machines to check”. “Not our fault, fix your exploit” etc etc.
To me its a bit like using a hammer to smash a window. You didn’t manufacture the hammer and wouldn’t know how to, you seen your dad use the hammer so you know what it can do and you seen someone smash a window with it. So you imitate the action. This is what the skids do except they then think that they are elite because of it.
I suppose a better analogy to draw would be of a your typical smash and grab robber thinking he’s Auric Goldfinger after the event.
I suppose a lot of it is peer pressure. Always trying to compete amongst each other and go that little bit further. Then of course you get the real crackers fanning the flames so that they can get a bunch of skids doing the mundane stuff and reporting unmanaged boxes to their “uber mates” them included. I wonder how many of these skids reported their latest conquest over an unmanaged box only to go back and find that someone has battened down the hatches.
I must admit I am never going to understand the Skids culture.

Dreamweaver is shit
Or at least my perception of it has been tainted by a website I am attempting to maintain that has been bolted together using dreamweaver. Note I did not use the word “constructed” or “built”. I prefer bolted because its a mess.
First:
Javascript is everywhere, most of which is bug ridden crap. Its being used to load images and has replaced the humble “link” on half the website. This has meant Google cannot see half the website which from a business point of view is critical. If the search engine cannot see your website then no one will find it!
Second:
Images everywhere. Every time a page was requested over 40 images were requested from the server. This is mad, on what appears to be a plain text website. with no adverts. 25% of the images happened to be used as 1 pixel spacers. This is absolute madness!

As far as I am aware he now prevents foreign users from visiting and viewing his website. I am not making this up. Unless you are on a North American ip range you are forbidden from viewing his website.
This is the most powerful man on the planet who has more affect on foreign governments and their economies than some of the local governments do yet if you ain’t American ( an infidel ) you are not allowed to view his website.
The reason for this dumb ass decision is apparently due to his website getting cracked a few times. Do they really think that banning mass IP ranges is going to stop a real cracker, bollix. Its not hard to crack another PC from inside their borders then launch from there.
All this episode has done is made him and his administration look like people who don’t care about us foreigners. But then, why should he care now he hasn’t really given a damn before.
I hate getting involved in politics but some things are just too dumb to abstain from commenting on them.

Have you ever read something and thought that there is no justice in the world. The New Zealand Government has decided to persecute him because he showed that it was possible to build a cruise missile for 5000 dollars and they didn’t like it.

Now if I had been the government the last thing I would have done would have tried to draw any attention to him at all and possibly even hire him. It’s a shame he has been pushed to the point of offering to build a missile for anyone but if you treat a man like and animal you are sure to be bit.
I thought that the lady holding the torch stood for freedom and liberty so why do we still hear about governments persecuting people, particularly America. You would have thought that history (our greatest teacher) teaches that persecution is a fine way to shoot yourself in both feet at the same time whilst simultaneously lighting cigarettes near a gas leak.
