Against Fox Hunting

The first thing I would like to make quite clear is that we cannot proceed on banning fox hunting because its unnecessary. A lot of friends who want the ban argue that it is unnecessary so it should be banned. This argument is rubbish because we all do quite unnecessary things every day just because we want to. There are thousands of sports fisherman and recreational hunters in the UK and it’s quite unnecessary that they do it yet we are not about to ban them.
I intend to proceed on the basis of fox hunting being unnecessarily cruel. This is very apparent to me and anyone with a pair of working eyes.
Fox’s have been portrayed by the hunters as a farmers worst nightmare and that this little demon kills everything on site and thus the less of them the better in their book. There is some truth in this (see “surplus killing” on Google), fox’s are not angels but then neither are domestic cats. Having been raised in a village that loved pigeon racing it was very apparent to us that the cute little kitty cat next door wanted to kill every single bird in the shed and would do so without remorse. What did we do? We made sure that they could not get into the shed. We didn’t chase them around the neighborhood with 50 dogs.
Anywhere someone makes a living from the land we will always have a conflict between the farmer and the predator. A farmer has every right to protect his animals from these marauders. However, this does not give anyone the right to be cruel to an animal and most farmers respect this.
Fox hunting is unnecessary because it is actually easier to shoot a fox than it is to gather together a team of hunters with their dogs and chase it across the country. This is the point that I stated earlier that was an insufficient argument to ban fox hunting. What is sufficient is the fact that it’s cruel.
The fox is chased down by a team of dogs and then killed. The actual death of the fox may not actually be that pleasant either. Unfortunately a lot of hunters would like you to believe that the fox is killed quickly. This is the biggest lie they seem to push because they know beyond all shadow of a doubt that the fox does not die quickly. It is quite easy to get your hands on a video where you will see a fox being disemboweled and it will still continue to fight until the end. These are the lucky ones……
They unlucky ones are the ones that are smart and go to ground. The fox knows it’s being hunted so it determines that if it goes deep enough no natural predator would be getting to it. What the fox doesn’t factor in is the human with the shovel (the spade brigade) who is prepared to dig the fox out and let the dogs rip it to shreds.
What we don’t hear about are the terrier men who send terriers down after the fox either of which may die from their injuries. There are recorded videos of terrier men digging down to a fox and then setting teams of terriers on the animal until it is killed. The so called men claim that this is not cruel yet it can go on for up to half an hour. It is illegal to dig a badger from its hole. Why then should we not extend the same courtesy to the fox who might happen to have went down a badger sett.
Sending terriers down after a fox is the closest thing these terrier men can get to a dog fight with little or no fear of a prosecution if caught in the act, or even with a video of the act which has happened in the past.
My argument above is weak at best so I will leave you with a much better argument against fox hunting… the facts… Pack of lies

  1. i have read ur views and agree 100%. Its the fact that fox hunting is an unnecessary and should be banned all over the uk.

  2. Ok. What you’re saying would be perfectly valid were it true, sadly its not. The report sponsored by the anti-hunting government quite explicitly said that 1) Fox control was necessary and 2) There was no evidence to suggest that hunting foxes was any crueller than any other method currently known. The strength in the argument lies in the idea of digging foxes out, this does not require a total ban, licensing and regulation would be all that’s needed.

  3. I totally agree with the point made. Fox hunting is absolutely barbaric! There is no need what-so-ever for it. Wheather it is a century-old-tradition or just a ‘sport’ it is cruel and disgusting. I am sure that the hunters would not particulary like to be killed in such a horrific way, so why do they get to kill innocent foxes? Britain is known for its fair welfare of animals, so why does it contine to be legal here? And to finish my point there is no need for fox control, there is evidencial proof that foxes do not kill more than 5% of lambs. How is being torn to streds by a pack of hounds not any crueller than any other method currently known? It is utter cruellty and is no need for it.

  4. Fox huntng is barbaric! It is an asinine and cruel thing to do to an animal. OK, so foxes climb over fences to take animlas FOR FOOD. It is not the fox’s fault that farmers are unable to provide better security and protection for their animals, i.e. better fences. Also, I cannot and will not understand how people can take pleasure from setting 50 dogs on an animal and chasing and chasing and chasing it until it is so exhausted it collapses and is viciously torn apart by dogs until it finally dies.
Basically hunting dogs should be legal for the farmers supporting fox-hunting say that they are killing animals, so why shouldn’t the dog be hunted for? because they are doing exactly the same thing. It is not fair and completely barbaric and anyone with an once of decency ought to realise that too.

  5. Having looked at many pro-hunting sites and many anti-hunting sites for information before making any firm decision on whether a fox hunting is cruel and unnecessary or not, I am totally confindent that it is extemely cruel and absolutely unnecessary. I am delighted it has been banned and will continue to vote for Labour as thanks for pushing this through as promised, even if they put up my taxes!!!

  6. i find people finding hunting any animal is very sad if only we could put them in a feild to be hunted. I have heard all storys from people how hunt and NOT once has any one has said they do it to protect the live stock just that it is a job thats sad i am one of many that has been quite about my views but i am very sad that people find hunting a sport they sould chance the law so there is NO loop hole and ban hunting means no hunting at all they sould find a proper job they should all be punished for taking the piss out of the law i do hope they get what coming to them and i do know there is more people that is NOT NOT supporting FOX HUNTING.my chidren get very upset we teach our children to love animals not to harm.

  7. i think that hunting should definatly NOT be banned. foxes need to be controlled and the best way to do this is too hunt them. They are going to be shot anyway so riders might aswell get some enjoyment out of it.

  8. i say keep fox hunting going because they are vermine and they will kill all the farmers chickens and lambs and if fox hunting is banned they will be shot

  9. Fox hunting should not have been banned. Now to keep the foxes numbers down they will need to be shot. Its not like the hunters can kill the foxes with one hit. If i was a fox id rather be killed quickly by hounds that be shot.

  10. this site is against the natural and unatural laws of phisics so i suggest that you close it down or ill sew you, im warning you i have enough money

  11. What you don’t understand is that hunting with hounds keeps up a healthy population of foxes, because when we ever catch a fox when hunting it is an old, weak or ill fox. The good fit healthy 9 times out of ten get away, now we have to drag hunt so each time we go hunting we have to shoot a fox every week where as before we we didn’t usually catch one. so the hunting ban has back fired on it’s self really, i don’t think the ban will last as police arn’t that botherd, and lots of hunts, inc beagles, bassets, miks hounds and harrier packs will not stand for it! and how anti’s say how drag hunting is just as good as real hunting, well it’s just crap it will never be as good as hunting.
    Keep hunting ROB

  12. i am very against fox hunting because if you had a disease you wouldn’t like to be ripped appart would you yours faithfully miss.bradley
